Almost half of adults have spoken to older relative about their driving

Road strategy must balance independence and safety

Nearly half (46 per cent) of adults with an older relative who drives have had a conversation with them about whether they are safe behind the wheel, a new survey suggests.

Charity IAM RoadSmart, which commissioned the research, called for a review of the renewal system for older drivers' licences.

Some 35 per cent of respondents who have spoken to an older person about road safety said they did so because they felt anxious when driven by them.
