Punjab faces flood threat as Bhakra Dam gates open
August 26, 2025
|YUGMARG NEWSPAPER
Heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir has led to the opening of two gates at Bhakra Dam to manage rising water levels, while excess water released from Ranjit Sagar Dam has heightened flood risks in Punjab’s Majha region.
A yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, and Rupnagar, with intense showers expected to continue for the next 24 hours.
The Bhakra Dam’s water level has reached 1668.57 feet, close to the danger mark of 1680 feet, necessitating controlled water release. The Sutlej River remains stable for now.
