Anti-terror security cordon under consideration for city

AN anti-terror security cordon may need to be erected around Plymouth city centre to prevent vehicles from being driven into pedestrians.

Temporary barriers have already been left in position on Old Town Street following its £18 million revamp, and Plymouth City Council is now considering whether to install bollards or other protective measures which could become permanent.

In April, the council introduced strict limitations on vehicles entering the newly enhanced Old Town Street and New George Street. The roads were transformed into pedestrian zones, with only specific vehicles permitted entry during designated hours.

The council retained temporary fencing at the entrance from St Andrew's Cross roundabout. However, it stated that upcoming anti-terrorism laws are now likely to require more substantial protective measures to be implemented.
