We will uphold nation's values to rebuild country

THE Cornwall Council elections have resulted in a change of administration, as was widely predicted. At the time of writing, we don’t know the shape that will take. For my part, I’m keen to engage with whatever the administration is.

The biggest winners were the Lib Dems and Reform, particularly in the Camborne, Redruth and Hayle, and the St Austell and Newquay constituencies, and the biggest losers the Conservatives. Labour lost two council seats and gained one; I'd like to thank outgoing councillor Stephen Barnes who has done so much to support the community in Redruth North.

Nationally, although the Conserv-atives lost all 18 councils they were defending, it was not a good night for Labour either, who lost the Runcorn by-election by six votes. There have been inevitable calls from some for Government policy to tack to the left and from others to the right.
