Tortoise tale makes my latest Scilly story

I ALWAYS feel uncomfortable referring to the Islands as 'Scilly' as when I was at Westward Television, we had to refer to them as the 'Isles of Scilly'. But that was a long time ago before the marketing men were gods. Nowadays having the word 'Scilly' attached to your product is almost a must. And whilst some have held out, like the 'Council of the Isles of Scilly' and 'Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, a plethora of businesses have sprung up cashing in on the 'amusing' use of the word like Scilly Chilli, Scilly Billy and Scilly Flowers. And why not?

There's even grass-fed beef produced which I'm sure Alf Garnett would have approved of, 'Scilly Cow'! And what's more there's a website where you're encouraged to "Share your Scilly Memories". Well last week I told you about being asked to be a witness at a wedding whilst sitting on the beach and my first experience of bingo in a century. Here's another very Scilly story.
