People want to see return of seven-day MIU service

CAMPAIGNERS gathered outside the Tyrrell Hospital to protest the downgrading of Ilfracombe’s minor injuries unit (MIU), which they say leaves local people facing "second-class" healthcare, writes Lewis Clarke.

The demonstration, organised by the Tyrrell Hospital League of Friends, highlighted frustration over the lack of seven-day minor injury services in North Devon.

Terry Elliott and Gloria Satchwell, who chairs the League of Friends, were among those who addressed the crowd. They said they had been “stonewalled” in efforts to get clear communication from the NHS Devon Integrated Care Board about the unit's future until North Devon MP Ian Roome intervened and a protest was threatened.
