'Animals give a huge amount of support without having to make them into a walking billboard'

Misuse of animals is just a selfish act

THE world is getting madder. Recently it was announced that courts are now preventing defendants from bringing untrained “emotional support” animals into courtrooms. Apparently, cases have been disrupted by dogs barking and growling or even attacking witnesses. I'm surprised to learn they were allowed in in the first place, guide dogs excepted.

It’s not just in the UK. In America, there's an increase of people bringing animals to hearings. I’m not talking about a guide dog for the blind here. No, people have actually taken ducks, squirrels and even an alligator.

Honestly, how supported would you feel with an alligator smiling at you on the end of a chain - do you wrap your arms round it if the pressure of being in dock gets a bit much? I’m not sure a squirrel would give much comfort, either.

Animals, no doubt, play a significant effect in the well-being of us humans. Petting our cat, stroking our dog are simple actions that we enjoy and can help reduce blood pressure, lower cholesterol, help combat loneliness and more, according to a wealth of studies carried out.

At last, animals are, in some areas at least, getting the respect they deserve. People now realise they perhaps work at a different dimension to humans and may have something to offer than just being available as lap dogs, food or for hunting.
