Gulls ready for play-off sudden death shootout
May 03, 2025
|Western Morning News (Saturday)
IT feels like each game is bigger than the last one as Torquay United prepare to take on Boreham Wood at home in the National League play-offs this afternoon (KO 3pm) - and manager Paul Wotton says his team “will be ready” to perform in front of a sell-out Plainmoor crowd.
After Torquay missed out on the title and automatic promotion by just two goals to Wotton's former team Truro City, they had to wait to see who they would be facing in their semi-final until Tuesday night when Boreham won 4-3 against Dorking Wanderers.
In the last 11 games, Torquay have won nine, drawn one and lost one, while Boreham are on a run of six wins.
“We are in a good run of form,” said Wotton. “The boys are in a good place. We have got a sell-out. We are fully aware we are playing an excellent team, a top, top team. We have got to be ready for it. There are no givens in football. But we'll be ready.
“My players have been absolutely incredible this year - absolutely top, top, top class. We missed out on a league title by two goals. We are going to do it again.”
