Eight million stitches bring Bible stories of creation to life

A NEW art exhibition exploring the story of creation in eight million stitches is set to go on display at Truro Cathedral next month.

'Threads Through Creation' has attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors across England, and this will be the only chance to see it in Cornwall.

Inspired by the poetic verses of Genesis, the first book in the Bible, textile artist Jacqui Parkinson has re-imagined this ancient story through layers of silk, hand-dyed materials, metallic leathers and gold leaf, miles of thread and more than eight million stitches.

The exhibition features twelve large embroidered silk panels, around three metres high and four metres wide, which weave together the teachings of the Bible into one visual experience.

Taking three years to complete, Ms Parkinson's work will be available to view at Truro Cathedral from Tuesday, July 8 to Wednesday, August 20.
