Brendan Wiredu experienced a difficult league debut for Argyle last weekend

- CHRIS ERRINGTON

TOM Cleverley has seen a 'real bubbliness' return to Brendan Wiredu in training after the midfielder had a very difficult start to his career at Plymouth Argyle last weekend.

Wiredu, signed from Fleetwood Town over the summer, conceded an early own goal on his debut in the Pilgrims' season-opening 3-1 defeat by Barnsley at Home Park on Saturday, He was then substituted at halftime, following a scuffle with opposition defender Jack Shepherd shortly before the break which led to them both being yellow-carded.

In the aftermath of the match, the 25-year-old received what a club statement later described as 'a torrent of abuse' from some Argyle fans on social media.

The club described the behaviour as 'not acceptable, while Wiredu briefly deactivated his social media accounts before posting a message on Monday evening when he said: "Keep smiling, move together as one. A lot of messages received thank you, focus on what we can do as a whole together this season!"
