WELSH ACE AZU MISSES FINAL BERTH
September 15, 2025
|Western Mail
WELSH sprinter Jeremiah Azu will switch his focus to the relay after missing out on a spot in the 100 metres final at the World Championships.
Azu, the world indoor 60m champion, did not make the final in Tokyo.
The Cardiff athlete finished fourth in his semifinal and his time of 10.05 seconds was not quick enough to earn him a place in the final as one of the fastest losers.
Azu will now team up with the men's 4x100m relay squad, which has a solid chance of winning a medal later this week.
Azu had to watch from the sidelines as Jamaica's Oblique Seville crowned himself world champion after blazing to a personal-best 9.77 seconds.
Compatriot Kishane Thompson claimed silver in 9.82s, with Olympic and defending world champion Noah Lyles collecting bronze in a season's-best 9.89s.
Zharnel Hughes was the fastest Briton in the semifinals in 10.03s but ultimately missed the finals by one place.
