Shock as docks worker, 38, dies of cardiac arrest

LOVED ones of a popular 38-year-old man have been left devastated after he was found dead at work.

Robbie Bassett, who was a picture of health prior to his sudden death according to his family, was found at Newport’s docks in the Pillgwenlly area of the city during his shift on Thursday, July 17.

It transpired that Mr Bassett, who helped maintain the docks, had a cardiac arrest during his shift at a time where he was working away from his colleagues, who had grown concerned that they hadn’t seen him for some time and began searching the docks area beside the River Usk.

His family said Mr Bassett was fit and cycled every day to work.

Cousin Callum Thomas said: “He was young, fit, always at the gym, always on his bike. Robbie was ripped. He had a great six-pack. You'd never think anything was wrong.”
