People leave homes due to risk of explosion

HOMES in part of Cardiff were evacuated in the early hours due to the “risk of an explosion” - after 30ft flames were spotted near a gas pipe.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene of the blaze at the access road leading to the rear of Ikea, Ferry Road, Grangetown, yesterday morning.
The road was temporarily shut in both directions, while PureGym Cardiff Bay also said its gym was temporarily shut due to a “gas fire on the retail park.” The road and the gym have since reopened.
A resident at the nearby temporary accommodation site Yr Hafan said a number of properties were evacuated from 4am. She said the evacuation lasted around three hours and was due to potential risk of an explosion.
