Grandparents' horrific actions were 'beyond comprehension, says investigating officer

A TOP detective yesterday condemned the murder of Ethan Ives-Griffiths as “tragic and unnecessary”.

Detective Superintendent Chris Bell was giving his views after the jury at Mold Crown Court returned guilty verdicts on murder and other harrowing offences faced by Michael and Kerry Ives in July.
Ethan's mother Shannon was found guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child, and child cruelty.
Det Supt Bell said the actions of Ethan's grandparents were “callous” and all three failed to care for and protect little Ethan.
Instead, Michael and Kerry caused him “misery and distress” before “brutally taking his life” in August 2021, Det Supt Bell said. Ethan’s mother Shannon simply looked on as events unfolded.
