DEVASTATED' Cardiff Rugby chair Alun Jones has stepped down from his position after the club were taken over by the Welsh Rugby Union on Wednesday, while chief executive Richard Holland says he will “reflect” on what's right for himself and the club after they went into administration.
-
The Arms Park club were temporarily placed into administration by their directors on Wednesday afternoon, with the acquisition of the club by the WRU going through hours later.
It came after Cardiff's owners, Helford Capital, were unable to meet obligations to fund the club as it was contractually obliged to do.
As part of the Union’s assumption of control, it was confirmed that Holland, as an employee of Cardiff Rugby, had been transferred by the WRU’s new subsidiary, but Jones had not.
At a lengthy press conference at the end of a dramatic day at the Arms Park, both were described as the previous chair and chief executive of Cardiff Rugby.
Speaking about their change in roles, WRU Chair Richard Collier-Keywood said: “On the appointment of the administrators earlier this afternoon, my understanding is the administrators take over responsibility for the company and the directors effectively step down from their post at that point in time.
