Comedian Mike Bubbins has set himself the challenge of learning Welsh for a new S4C show. Indigo Jones finds out how he's getting on

- Indigo Jones

THE Welsh Government has set a target for a million Welsh speakers by 2050 and Mike Bubbins plans to be one of them.

The comedian and writer has challenged himself to learn the language as part of a new S4C series called Un Mewn Miliwn.

Despite learning some Welsh at school in Barry in the 1980s, the comedian told us he struggled to retain a lot of his language skills.

He also took part in S4C's Iaith ar Daith in 2022, which follows celebrities who learn the language with the help of other Welsh stars. In Mike's case he embarked on the experience with friend and his Socially Distant Sports Bar podcast co-host Elis James.

He says this time he is truly committed to learning Welsh: "This is the first time I've sort of gone full in for an extended period of time. It was hard, it was really hard.

"I didn't expect it to be so difficult. Like when I was in school, this is Wales in the '80s, I did a lot more French than Welsh.
