THERE'S a strange paradox at the heart of Yeovil's housing market.

How can Yeovil homes be so cheap if its housing market is thriving?

On one hand, it is the cheapest place in Somerset to buy property. As of 2024, the average house in BA21 will set you back just £224,486, with its nearest competitor Bridgwater (TA6) being roughly £8,000 more expensive.

In fairness, other postcodes within Yeovil are more expensive you'd be shelling out an average of £249,882 for a home in BA20, though this is still the third cheapest housing market in the county.

BA22 is more in the middling range, with average prices of £355,323. But ultimately, if you wanted to find the most affordable place to live in our county, you would be best off going to Yeovil.

Steff, 26, has lived in town for around ten years and think she has the answer: "Nobody wants to live here."

David, 52, speaks warmly of the town but ultimately agrees with Steff's diagnosis: "[Housing is cheap] because people might not want to live down the side of a dirty alleyway."
