Plans to bring monks' old home 'back to life'

A FORMER monastery near Gloucester which was occupied by Benedictine monks for over 35 years could be revamped into a new housing unit as part of a multi-million pound project.

Prinknash Abbey, located between Brockworth and Painswick on the A46, was built to house up to 89 men, and was occupied from 1972 until 2008.
It has stood empty since then - but now, Stroud District Council has received a planning application for a £20 million refurbishment which could see the building transformed into 20 new apartments and eight new three-bedroom homes.
