Nature is ‘real winner’ as river project praised

A BOLD river restoration project that has reshaped landscapes, revived habitats and boosted flood protection has earned the National Trust a silver award at the Global Good Awards 2025.

The accolade was presented in the Wild World: Recover, Regenerate, Rewild category for the charity's Resilient River Corridors project at

the Holnicote Estate in Somerset.

The initiative has reconnected rivers to their floodplains, planted more than 120,000 trees, created wetlands and reintroduced keystone species including beavers and 300 water voles across the 12,000-acre estate.
