Feeling the heat like some politicans
May 03, 2025
|Western Daily Press
WHEN you're young there's a whole bunch of things you cannot believe will change when you become old.
-
Like, for example, the idea that you might not like hot weather quite as much as you did when you were happy to bake your body in the sun in the name of hoped-for attractiveness.
Not only is sunbathing off the agenda nowadays, some people even have difficulty coping with the mild springtime heat we've been blessed with this week. And I’m not just talking about the Labour and Conservative politicians who took a bashing at the local elections.
There were moments when some of us found ourselves escaping the sun and seeking shade. I've had to drag a fan out of the cupboard where it has gathered cobwebs all winter and aim it right at the hot and bothered old personage who is scribbling these words. Which is surprising for a bloke who used to worship the sun so much he used to leave these shores for months on end to seek the perpetual heat of Greece.
Not that I am complaining. I have loved this week’s warm weather as much as anyone else. It’s just that it seems that you are unable to cope quite as well with higher temperatures once you've reached a certain age. Or low temperatures, come to that.
