THERE are calls for a public apology after a Cotswold councillor suggested affordable housing is for “poor people”.

The comments, which have sparked concerns over “outdated Dickensian perspectives”, were made during a recent Cotswold District Council meeting which discussed plans for 30 homes in Willersey near Broadway.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Nick Bridges (LD, Watermoor) made the comments while raising concerns during the meeting about the location of affordable housing on land which was most at risk of flooding.

“I’m guessing that the houses underneath the blue triangle are the affordable houses for poor people,” he said.

“And I'm guessing that is the land most at risk of water tables rising and surface flooding.
