The Elizabethan bed was once housed at historic Goldolphin House near Helston
An “exceptionally rare” piece of Cornish history is heading to auction today and could sell for up to £30,000.
Ornately carved and described by auctioneers as one of the most complete surviving examples of an Elizabethan bed ever recorded, it dates from around 1580 and was part of the furnishings of Godolphin House near Helston, ancestral home of the Godolphin family and now owned by the National Trust.
David Houlson, oak furniture consultant to Salisbury auctioneers Woolley and Wallis, described the bed as an extraordinary survival.
