Chef calls time on pub tenure after 11 successful years

THE family behind an award-winning gastropub have announced they will be taking a step back after more than a decade.

Tom Hannon, owner and chef patron of the Rising Sun in Truro, said this would be his family's last summer at the former coaching inn on Mitchell Hill.

He and his wife Katie took over the business 11 years ago and, he said, had put a lot of hard work into creating a venue which showcased the best qualities of a modern pub.

It was named Taste of the West's best dining pub 2018-19 and won a gold award in 2023, a Great British Pub Awards winner in 2019 and a finalist in 2023.

It was one of only three Cornish pubs to feature in last year's Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropub Awards, won the prize for best food at the Punch Publican Awards 2023 and the Best Bar List title in the 2021 Trencherman's Awards.
