Bird manages to show pace

FORMER Millfield pupil Sam Bird secured his first Formula E points in six rounds after an eighth-place finish in the second race of the Tokyo double-header at the weekend.

Having only had two points-scoring finishes prior to Japan, Bird was determined to get his season back on track. Saturday's wet conditions had left Bird 12th and his race never really came to fruition after a trip through an escape road left him finishing 14th.

Bird was one of the later drivers to use both his pit boost and final attack modes, but he was unable to make much of an impression. His McLaren teammate Taylor Barnard on the other hand enjoyed a stellar weekend and managed to finish third.
