THE RISE OF STUDY CAFÉS AMONG URBAN YOUTH

As digital platforms and flexible learning become more widespread, study cafés are emerging as spaces that support new studying and working habits. Phuong Linh reports.

THE RISE OF STUDY CAFÉS AMONG URBAN YOUTH

During peak hours, many study cafés located near universities are often fully occupied.

Inside, most customers wear headphones and focus on their laptops or textbooks. The quiet sounds of pages turning and keyboards typing create a noticeably different atmosphere from the lively conversations typically found in traditional cafés. The spaces are usually designed with minimalist interiors, spaced seating, soft lighting and ample power outlets to support long study sessions.

The expansion of study cafés is unfolding within a highly competitive coffee chain market dominated by several major brands in Vietnam. The Coffee Chain Market Insights 2025 report, published earlier this year by InsightAsia Vietnam, noted that 92 per cent of the 1,200 participants, all aged 18-45, visited coffee chains in the previous three months and 73 per cent visited at least monthly.

Beyond social purpose, functional usage is increasingly evident: while 68 per cent of respondents visit cafés to meet friends, a notable 52 per cent use these spaces for work and study.
