Expansion and reconfiguration shape FDI landscape
June 08, 2026
|Vietnam Investment Review
Foreign investment into Vietnam is seeing a rise in registered and disbursed figures. Leif Schneider, country manager for Vietnam at international law firm Luther, shared with VIR’s Olivia Bui the latest movements in Vietnam's investment landscape.
Why does foreign direct investment (FDI) remain resilient in Vietnam despite current complexities?
Vietnam’s FDI trajectory continues to defy the broader narrative of geopolitical fragmentation, supply chain uncertainty, and slowing global capital deployment. The first months of 2026 have once again demonstrated that Vietnam is no longer merely benefiting from a temporary trend. It has become an anchor point of structural global supply chain architecture.
The numbers remain compelling. Total registered FDI amounted to $24.81 billion during the first five months of 2026, while disbursed FDI reached the highest level recorded for the same period in five years. New project registrations, capital expansion by existing investors, and merger and acquisition activity all posted strong growth, reinforcing a pattern that has now persisted across several years of global volatility.
