COUNCIL ORDERED TO PAY COMPENSATION

- By PHILIP JAMES LYNCH

A VULNERABLE man was left without care after a West London council wrongly cut his support.

The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman ruled that Hillingdon Council must pay the man compensation for distress caused by the care withdrawal.

The man, named only as Mr B in the report, had his care cancelled after the council decided he did not need it. He was then wrongly left without care for three months.

In August 2023, Mr B told the council he was being bullied by a resident in his shared house. The police visited Mr B and his housemate and concluded no further action was necessary.

At the time Mr B was receiving seven hours of weekly care which included help with meals, housework, shopping and appointments. Shortly after the report of bullying, the council were told by his carers that Mr B could get to the shop himself and make a simple meal.
