Boys basketball falls in Class C North prelim game

|The Weekly Packet
The George Stevens Academy boys basketball team traveled to Calais for a Class C North prelim game contest against the Calais Blue Devils on February 12.
The tenth-seeded Eagles were hit hard by seventh-seeded Calais's hot first quarter shooting, but despite falling behind by double digits in the first half, the scrappy Eagles battled back, cutting the deficit to just 30-25 in the early moments of the third quarter.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, Calais again caught fire, going on a 16-5 run to close the quarter. And while GSA's Colby Eaton and Malcolm Page connected on a pair of threes early in the fourth, Calais was able to fend off the Eagles' rally efforts, and advanced to the quarterfinals with a 69-54 win.
Eaton led the way for the Eagles with 23 points, while fellow sophomore Page chipped in with 15, and senior Isaiah Radel added eight.
Head Coach Dwayne Carter, who guided this young squad to a 12-7 season, had high praise for a group that made it to the postseason despite losing all of its starters from the previous season.

A step toward effective climate strategy
As weather-related disasters ramp up around the state and the country, the most noticeable increase in public participation in these climate-related discussions is a demand for more government funding for repairs and adaptation, and yet pretty much zero discussion about decreasing the rate of climate warming. This is both unsurprising and a cause for deep concern.
