Festival of Heroes event so successfull more are promised

HUNDREDS gathered in Cullompton for a heartfelt community celebration on Sunday, May 18, as the town played host to the first-ever Devon Festival of Heroes - an event inspired by one family’s life-changing experience and dedicated to raising funds for the Devon Air Ambulance.

The event, held at the Cullompton Community Association Fields, was organised by Louise McRandal, whose husband Alex was critically injured in a motorbike crash a year earlier.

The air ambulance played a vital role in saving his life, and the couple wanted to give back to the service they now call “miracle workers”.

Speaking at the event, Louise said: “It was an incredibly emotional day. A year ago, my husband hit a pot-hole on his commute, was catapulted off his bike, and had to be placed in an induced coma before being airlifted to Southmead Hospital (in Bristol).
