Fake shirts boom as clubs hike the price of replica gear to £85

- BY JEREMY ARMSTRONG

PRICES ARE OUT OF OUR LEAGUE

MILLIONS of football fans are facing yet another hike in replica kit prices this season, with families taking a massive hit.

Top clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City are charging the most for their latest kit at £85.

Rivals Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Fulham and Man United have also slapped a fiver on last season's £80 price tag, the equivalent of 6%.

The inflation-busting rises are fuelling a black market in counterfeit shirts, with punters turning to fakes sold openly online.

PR firm Stadia Agency says fake versions of this season's adult shirts are an average £62 cheaper – over 80% – and kids' versions are £43 less.

One seller told buyers online: "Only £14. Don't pay Spurs £85!"
