JK Rowling should let trans people be

DAVID Tennant has called on Harry Potter author JK Rowling to “let people be”, saying attacks on the rights of transgender people are “medieval and absurd”.

Speaking on new ITV show The Assembly, the actor was asked why he became an outspoken trans ally.

He recalled a law brought in by then-PM Margaret Thatcher in 1988, explaining: “When I was a teenager there was this thing called Section 28, about stopping the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality in schools.

“Which was basically saying it was illegal to talk about being gay in schools, or to suggest that might be a normal way of behaving.

“We look back on that now as a medieval, absurd thing to try and say. I think the way the trans community is being demonised is the same.”

Section 28 was eventually repealed by Labour in 2003.
