Malkinson scandal helps my case says bookie 'murderer'

A MURDERER hopes to clear his name 43 years on - thanks to the Andrew Malkinson scandal.

Ray Gilbert, 67, spent 36 years in jail for stabbing a bookie in 1981 but claims cops bullied him into a confession.

Now the Criminal Cases Review Commission is investigating whether forensic evidence stored in boxes could prove his innocence.

It is understood to be one of thou- sands of cases it is reviewing after Mr Malkinson spent 17 years in prison for a rape he did not commit.

Mr Malkinson, 59, was accused of attacking a woman while working as a security guard in Salford in 2003.
