Farmers' Protests Continue as Talks With Union Ministers End Inconclusively

Talks between farmers and Union Ministers end without resolution; protests continue at Punjab and Haryana borders.
Another round of talks between the protesting farmers and a group of union ministers over the pending demands of the farmers ended without a resolution to the year-long agitation at the Punjab and Haryana borders. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Chouhan said that the discussion ended on a positive note.
“The discussion with both farmers’ unions were positive. The welfare of farmers is a priority for the Modi government, and we have listened to the views of the farmer leaders,” Chouhan said, adding that talks with the farmer leaders would continue.
The next meeting has been scheduled for March 19 in Chandigarh.
According to available information, the union ministers had reportedly agreed to cover two more crops under the MSP scheme, but the farmers were adamant in their demand for a guaranteed MSP for all 23 notified crops.
