China’s aggressive infrastructure drive, militarisation, and resource extraction are pushing Tibet toward an irreversible environmental catastrophe, a new report by the Stockholm Centre for South Asian and Indo-Pacific Affairs has warned.
Released ahead of the upcoming COP30 climate summit, the study describes the Tibetan Plateau — often called the “Roof of the World” — as being in “severe ecological distress” with consequences that could ripple far beyond Asia.
