Tackling food waste • Community-wide effort needed to manage pest problem

We thank Ms Candice Yeo Chay Hoon for her letter “Improve food waste management to address pest problems” (Nov 27).

The National Environment Agency (NEA) shares the concerns raised and agrees that improving food waste management is key to addressing pest problems.
Rats thrive wherever food, water and shelter are available. Managing the rat population requires a community-wide effort and everyone needs to play a part by keeping our premises and living environment clean.
Individuals should ensure food waste is bagged and disposed of in refuse bins and keep the bin cover closed, where applicable.
