• Local index down 0.8%, with Singtel sliding 3.3% to $3.22 • Decliners beat gainers 348 to 201 in the broader market • Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Australia all end in the red
US President Donald Trump sparked market turbulence in the new trading week as, over the weekend, he followed through on his election vows to impose tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China.
His move rattled stock markets on Feb 3, with bourses from Japan to Australia swimming in a sea of red.
Singapore was not spared either, as the Straits Times Index (STI) closed 0.8 per cent, or 29.35 points, lower at 3,826.47.
