Slot notes PSG's pedigree as English, French league leaders clash in Champions League

Liverpool Relish Parisian Challenge

NYON - Liverpool will take on Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of this season's Champions League, while the draw on Feb 21 also threw up a showdown between reigning champions Real Madrid and their city rivals Atletico.

Arne Slot's Liverpool finished first in the 36-team league phase of the competition to qualify directly for this stage, while PSG finished 15th and had to come through a two-legged play-off tie in which they crushed fellow French side Brest 10-0 on aggregate.

The first leg will take place at the Parc des Princes on March 4 or 5, with the return leg at Anfield a week later.

Slot told the club website after the draw at the Uefa headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland: "At this stage of the competition, the quality of opponent is only going to be of a very high standard and in PSG we have drawn a team and a club with real European pedigree.

"As is the case with ourselves, PSG are top of their domestic league and are enjoying a long unbeaten run. This tells us all that we need to know about the challenge that we will face but it is also a challenge that we will look forward to."
