S'pore and US reaffirm defence ties, pledge to strengthen cooperation

Singapore and the US have reaffirmed bilateral defence ties in what was described as a "good and warm introductory call" by Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen.
Dr Ng said in a Facebook post on Feb 6 that he had spoken with US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth on Feb 5, congratulating him on his appointment.
Mr Hegseth, a former Fox News personality and decorated veteran, was confirmed as defence secretary on Jan 24.
Dr Ng said he had recognised the "immense responsibilities" that Mr Hegseth shouldered over the US military, with its global presence and influence.
