April 16 Hong Kong (Happy Valley) form analysis
-
RACE 1 (1,000M)
9 Patch Of Watch will have Zac Purton in the saddle after four runs under an apprentice. While his best form is over 1,200m, he still maps favourably.
12 Diamond Soars has drawn in barrier 3, which suits his on-pace pattern. He has placed three times this season and is competitive.
6 Modest Gentleman is suited by the drop back in trip. A fast-run race will give him the chance to finish strongly late.
2 Spicy So Smart holds a strong record in this grade with two wins from three runs. Do not ignore.
RACE 2 (2,200M)
8 Hakka Radiance was second at this course and distance two starts ago. He opted for a change of tactics last time when dropping back to 1,800m, but led too quickly and faded late into fifth. He deserves another chance.
10 Management Folks missed the start last time over 2,000m before charging home late for second. He is a proven course-and-distance winner and will be running on late.
2 Serangoon has to overcome barrier 11 but won over this course and distance three runs back. Include him back at the city circuit.
3 Capital Legend is having his third run since returning to Class 4 while stepping up to an unknown distance. But trainer Caspar Fownes recently pulled off a win with a similar set-up and it would not surprise to see him in the mix.
RACE 3 (1,650M)
10 Iconical has been unplaced in six starts, of which five were over an unsuitable 1,200m. He stepped up to 1,400m last start at Sha Tin but was drawn widest in barrier 14.
He has since trialled strongly and, with Purton taking the ride from barrier 4, similar tactics could be adopted.
2 Thesis is coming off a fast-finishing fourth over this distance, where he was dictated by a wide draw. Before that, he won once and was third at this course and distance, so he can bounce back.
