A former colleague would often sarcastically remark: “You're going to where?

To jamble is it?” whenever someone mispronounced the name of the resort casino in Genting Highlands.Finally, and because I’m of a certain vintage, talk among Malaysians in Singapore often turns to retirement ~ specifically, whether we'd like to apply for citizenship and remain in Singapore for our golden years, or return to Malaysia, where our Singapore dollar savings will stretch further.

Some Singaporean friends tell me they envy the range of lifestyle choices we Malaysians have in the country of our birth. True, once we stop working, we will not be as confined to urban living as we are in the Republic. In theory, we could retreat to a kampung house and raise chickens, escape to the hills for cooler weather or settle in a sleepy seaside town.
