Emergencies ● Telco outage a good reminder of how to be better prepared

The Singtel outage, which cut off calls to the police and other public lines, may be a good reminder for the common citizen to responsibly enhance his contingency preparedness for crises, says the writer.

I refer to the article "Singtel outage: Experts call for review of emergency hotline contingency plans" (Oct 10).

I agree with Mr Anthony Lim, the director of the Centre for Strategic Cyberspace and International Studies, that with call forwarding, operators can continue to rely on analogue networks to contact emergency services, while keeping new technologies as a backup.
