Mission 2027: BJP begins ‘performance test’ for MLAs

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections may still be far away, but the political chessboard in the state has already begun to take shape. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has begun preparing the ‘report card’ of its MLAs who won in 2022.

Sources indicate that the party is assessing the MLAs’ grassroots presence in their constituency and their active engagement with the public. The search for new faces has intensified to replace MLAs facing public dissatisfaction or complaints of being aloof.

A senior party official on Thursday said: “The high command has assigned two external agencies with the task of conducting a survey. These teams have been traversing across urban and rural areas for several days, directly interacting with people. Public opinion is being gathered on the work, behaviour, and presence of MLAs in their constituencies.”
