Recently, news about the first baby born with an AI-assisted IVF system made headlines. This story not only gave hope to many but also highlighted AI's role in revolutionizing fertility treatment across the globe. India too is witnessing this revolution with emerging technologies, home-grown innovations and growing focus on precision. To understand India's position in IVF treatment and the recent integration of AI in reproductive health, The Statesman spoke to Dr Ankush Raut, infertility specialist at Apollo Fertility, Borivali, Mumbai.
"AI is now present at every stage. It collects and evaluates data and predicts how the ovarian reserve is," Dr Raut said, adding, "It can predict how the person may respond to the medication, what amount of eggs we may get in the IVF treatment and the success rate in these kinds of scenarios." Besides, he also pointed out that AI can help in analyzing sperm health, identifying the best embryos, and even deciding the optimal timing for implantation.
