Nationwide bandh and drivers' strike cripples transport & fuel supply in state

The nationwide bandh called by 10 central trade unions on Wednesday, combined with an ongoing strike by public transport drivers in Odisha, disrupted normal life and raised fears of an impending fuel supply crisis.
Commuters bore the brunt of the twin protests, as public transport remained off the roads while hundreds of tankers carrying fuel were stranded. Several trade union activists were arrested across Odisha while picketing and blocking traffic at key locations.
The bandh was called in protest against the Centre's four new labour codes, contractual employment, privatization of public sector units, and other policy decisions. It saw a mixed response in the state. While operations in banking, insurance, and central government offices were affected, cargo handling at Paradip Port and production at Paradeep Phosphates Ltd (PPL) and IFFCO continued as usual. Private vehicles, auto-rickshaws, schools and colleges were unaffected.
