Law Minister asks SJTA to probe timber row

Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Friday asked the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration, Puri to conduct an internal inquiry on the controversial reports that the idols made for the Digha Jagannath Temple were made with the surplus neem timber from the 2015 Nabakalebar ritual.
The state government has set a target of 14 LMT to be procured in the rabi season. At least 3.37 lakh farmers have already registered themselves to take part in the process and sell their paddy.
Procurement will be made through 965 primary agricultural cooperative societies in 20 districts, said officials after a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo on Thursday. Ministers Krushna Chandra Patra, Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, Pradeep Bal Samanta and Suresh Pujari, principal secretaries, Collectors and other officials of various districts took part in the meeting.
