Protect our citizens from foreign wars

THE recent revelations that 17 South African men were lured under false pretences to Russia, only to be thrust onto Ukraine’s front lines, expose a grave moral breach and a betrayal of our nation’s values.

These men, seeking legitimate work or adventure, were fed a empty promises of “security training” or high-paying jobs, unaware that they were being enlisted as mercenaries ina brutal conflict thousands of kilometres from home.

This is not only illegal; it is a violation of human dignity and sovereignty.

First, informed consent is impossible when recruiters mask the reality of war.
