Challenges of the GNU: Mokonyane slams the DA

She describes the Government of National Unity (GNU) as “an amoeba” that lacks a clear shape.

She singled out the behaviour of the Democratic Alliance (DA) as the biggest threat, bluntly labelling them “the most irresponsible party.”

She noted: “They misbehave. Remember, they were going to oppose the budget. They try to address issues like foreign policy while wanting to play a dual role of being both in opposition and in government.”

Mokonyane referred to the GNU as a “strategic setback” for the ANC but acknowledged that it emerged from the will of the South African electorate, during an interview with TimesLIVE.

“It's not what we wanted; it's what came through the process of South Africans,” she stated. “We must recognise that this organisation represents the people.

“Regardless of our strength, we must humble ourselves and use what we have to bring all interested parties together. That is the essence of the GNU”

Mokonyane believes the GNU can survive until the next national elections, but only with cooperation and collaboration among the parties involved.

She also accused the DA of undermining the president and violating the agreed GNU Statement of Intent, warning that some within the DA have made no secret of their desire to see the ANC destroyed.
