Fears for eco-sensitive area put against support for 'diversity'
NEIGHBOURS are divided over plans for homes on the edge of their village.
Hencie Homes wants to create nine serviced plots for self-build homes off Fairgreen Road in Baldwins Gate.
Its outline plans have attracted 64 objections, including concerns over the impact on services and the nearby Chorlton Moss beauty spot. But there have also been 64 letters of support for the scheme from people who say the development will diversify housing in Baldwins Gate.
Borough planning officers are now recommending the scheme for approval. They say there would be some 'local impact' and a loss of farmland, but the development would provide much-needed housing.
Newcastle Borough Council's planning committee will make a decision on Tuesday.
