Call for more staff to run ticket barriers
BARRIER ROW: An Avanti West Coast train at Stoke-on-Trent train station.
UNION officials have hit out at Avanti West Coast amid claims that Stoke Station’s ticket barriers are being staffed by just one worker.
The RMT says that staff cuts and unfilled vacancies are putting passengers and employees ‘potentially at risk’
The rail union added that the issue is particularly bad at Stoke Station where ‘gate lines’ are ‘frequently’ manned by just one person, despite risk assessments requiring two.
It claimed that ticket office staff are also being pulled away to cover gates, leaving long queues of passengers needing help.
