'10p fee to visit Peak District park could offset a decade of cuts’
PEOPLE could be charged to visit beauty spots like the Roaches and Manifold Valley under plans to safeguard the Peak District National Park.
Chief executive Phil Mulligan said it was ‘about time’ the government considers alternative ways of funding national parks.
In February, the authority confirmed that it had approved a number of redundancies and service cuts as part of a plan driven by the need to reduce costs.
Mr Mulligan says a 10p charge would ‘more than make up’ for the government cuts - while a £1 charge would eliminate the need for core government grants altogether.
